The advantage of this digital version is I can now play in a shorter time, if I don’t have the free time to set up the actual boardgame. Implementation of the rules and interface is well done and clear. Can’t wait for the expansions to roll out, especially Invaders from Afar, which adds two extra factions to choose from, including my favourite! Scythe: Digital Edition. Bug reports until the release of Invaders fro Afar. Get stuck on a spinning color wheel. Mac OS High Sierra. Tried deleting and re-installing both Steam and Scythe. Problem cropped up after about 2 games. In addition to the two new factions, Invaders From Afar deepens the competition by allowing 2 additional players to join the Scythe: Digital Edition universe, for a total of up to 7 players. The expansion also adds two new player mats - Militant and Innovative - offering players new strategies to master, further determining what they can bolster, upgrade, produce, deploy, move, build, trade and enlist. Description

In an alternate reality in 1920s Europa, it's been several years since the 'Great War', but the ashes of the conflict are still hot and the war is entering a new phase. The first conflict saw the emergence of some incredible engines of war known as Mechs. Built by 'The Factory', an independent city-state which has since become the object of everyone's desire, these technological monstrosities roam the snowy landscapes of Europa.
Be the hero of one of the five factions – Saxony Empire, Crimean Khanate, Rusviet Union, Polania Republic or Nordic Kingdom – and become the richest and most powerful nation in all of Europa during these dark times! To assure the victory of your people, you will need to explore and conquer new territories, enlist new recruits and deploy your forces by building formidable and terrifying combat Mechs. Replay history in a fictional past full of mechanical engines and technology, where each choice you make will be critical. Choose your battles with care, because in Scythe, victory is achieved with and for the people!

Gameplay:

Asymmetry: every player starts the game with different resources (energy, coins, keen combat sense, popularity…), a different starting location and a secret objective. the starting positions are specifically set to contribute to the uniqueness of every faction and the asymmetrical nature of the game.:

Strategy: scythe offers players almost complete control over their fate. the only elements of chance apart from each player's individual secrete objective card are the encounter cards, which players draw to interact with the citizens of newly explored lands. combat is also handled by way of choice; no luck or chance is involved.:

Engine building: players can improve their construction abilities to become more efficient, build structures that improve their position on the map, enlist new recruits into their faction, activate mechs to dissuade opponents from invading and expand their borders to reap greater types and quantities of resources. this aspect creates a feeling of energy and progression over the course of the entire game. the order in which players get to develop their economy and technologies adds to the unique feel of every game, even when playing as the same faction several times.:

The Knights of Unity and Asmodee Digital have released the first expansion for their digital adaptation of the popular board game Scythe.

The Invaders From Afar expansion adds Clan Albion and the Togawa Shogunate as playable factions, as well as support for seven players, two new boards, and various new cosmetic changes. The expansion costs $9.99.

Here’s a rundown of the new content:

While empires rise and fall in Eastern Europa, the rest of the world takes notice, and covets the secrets of the Factory. Two distant factions, Albion and Togawa, send out their emissaries to scout the land and plan their best strategy for conquest. They will all lead their mechs to war, but who will come out victorious?
Play as or against two new factions: Clan Albion and the Togawa Shogunate

Connor & Max – Clan Albion:
Fearing that the Factory could fall under the control of the other factions that might encroach on Albion land, the Clan decides to take drastic measures. With his faithful companion, a wild boar named Max, at his side, Connor is entrusted with the command of a special task force to build a strong line of defense against the enemies and destroy the Factory before it’s too late.

Clan Albion also craves control of new territories. Plan your moves carefully and place your Flag tokens to gain control over additional territory for end-game scoring.

Akiko & Jiro – Togawa Shogunate:
Following the mysterious disappearance of Togawa engineers in Eastern Europa, the shogun decides to send a military expedition to subvert the Rusviets, who are believed to be behind the abductions, and discover the truth about the Factory. Trusting in his niece’s skills as a samurai, the shogun has empowered Akiko to lead the expedition, accompanied by her special trained monkey named Jiro.

Determined to slow their enemies’ progress, the Togawa place traps behind them. Use these traps to gain control over additional territory for end-game scoring.
